As expected, Huawei today unveiled the Huawei Ascend P7, the successor to last year’s Ascend P6. Huawei may not be able to call it the world’s thinnest phone but it still bills it as “one of the slimmest 4G LTE smartphones in the market.” Clearly an evolution over its predecessor rather than a completely new design, the Ascend P7 retains a familiar look while sporting many improvements under the hood.
“Huawei’s relentless commitment to developing premium quality smartphones over the past three years has paid off. We are now ranked number three globally in terms of smartphone shipments, and our brand recognition is growing steadily in key regions such as China and Western Europe,” said, Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group. “Today, the launch of Huawei Ascend P7 once again challenges existing industry standards by redefining smartphone design, camera experience, and connectivity, to provide people with an unprecedented mobile experience.”

As we have seen with other devices, manufacturers are starting to use selfies as a way to distinguish their devices from the competition. 5MP front-facing cameras are no longer so uncommon but Huawei has taken this to a new level with an 8MP camera. It promises to take the ultimate “groufie,” a group selfie, thanks to a panorama function for panoramic selfie shooting.
Huawei is launching the Ascend P7 in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. It is expected to come to other markets later but it remains to be seen if it will make its way to North America. Given that WIND Mobile carried the Ascend P6, we could see it in Canada later this year. It will sell for €449 unlocked.
