HTC will hold its next press event on October 8. The “Double exposure” event is expected to focus on a new rugged and waterproof camera. But a new rumour now suggests that HTC could also use the event to unveil the Nexus 9 tablet it is building for Google. Even better, it could also unveil a new Nexus smartphone at the event!
Sources have told TK Tech News that HTC is also working on a Nexus smartphone. Unfortunately, attempts to validate the leak and get more details have so far proven unsuccessful. It is also surprising that there have been no other hints or leaks about such a device. At this point, this rumour should be taken with a healthy dose of scepticism.
Other rumours have consistently suggested that Google is looking to launch a 5.9-inch Nexus X smartphone built by Motorola. There are also rumours of a second device, either a smaller 5.2-inch one also built by Motorola or an updated Google Nexus 5 with 64GB of onboard storage.
If Google is to unveil more than one new Nexus smartphones, it is unlikely that it will do so at an HTC event. It is more likely that it would unveil them at an event of its own, especially if more than one manufacturer is involved.
It all sounds like wishful thinking but we’ll readily admit that we would love to see Google unveil more than one new Nexus smartphone, especially if it unveils a 5.9-inch phablet.
