A recent rumour suggested that HTC was readying a new smartphone that would be marketed as the “ultimate selfie” smartphone. Known as the HTC Eye, it will reportedly launch in Q4 in the U.S. with AT&T. Little is known about the smartphone but a recent trademark filing with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) has given further credence to the rumour.
As usual, the trademark filing, submitted only on June 17, reveals very little but does confirm that it is related to a smartphone or tablet.
With selfies as popular as they are, manufacturers have begun to include better front-facing cameras on their smartphones. 5MP front cameras are no longer unusual. Advances on the software side are also making it easier to take selfies. For example, LG introduced a gesture that triggers taking a picture on the LG G3. It’s likely that the HTC Eye will incorporate a better front-facing camera and new software features designed to allow us to take better selfies.
We’re looking for more information on the HTC Eye so stay tuned.
