HTC yesterday began to send out press invitation to a breakfast event that will take place just ahead of IFA 2014. It promised to let attendees “see what’s next for smartphones” but revealed little else. A teaser image today gave us our first clue as to what HTC has in store for us.
The teaser comes with the hint that 820 does not only represent the time but that it will soon have “a new meaning” if the Google translation of the original post is correct. This suggests that HTC will unveil a new device bearing the model number 820. It will likely be part of HTC’s Desire line and launch as the HTC Desire 820.
With all the individual images in the teaser hinting at speed, it may well be that the HTC Desire 820 will sport Qualcomm’s new octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, a 64-bit SoC with integrated LTE. HTC could well end up releasing the first 64-bit Android smartphone, a nice coup for the company as it continues to turn its recent fortunes around.
Along with an Adreno 405 GPU, the Snapdragon 615 will come with four 1.8GHz Cortex-A53 cores and four more clocked at 1.0GHz.
There is no word yet on availability and pricing for the HTC Desire 820. We expect to have those details on September 4.
