The second half of 2014 could be a busy one for HTC. Recent rumours have hinted at the HTC M8 Prime, a premium version of its HTC One (M8) flagship, and the HTC M8 Ace, a cheaper variant meant to take on similar devices with a cheaper price. 9to5Google has now learned that two more variants, known as the “Plus” and “Advance,” could be waiting in the wings.
Some details about the HTC M8 Plus suggest that it could be one and the same with the HTC M8 Prime but there are also some differences that suggest otherwise. The HTC M8 Plus is said to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, a “2K display with highest pixel count to date” (WQHD likely), 3GB of RAM and a single 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization. It will retain the metal body of the HTC One (M8) but add dust and water resistance (certification level unspecified at this point). If the HTC M8 Plus and HTC M8 Prime are the same device, it could be that the render we saw recently sporting a metal-ceramic composite for the body and an HTC Duo Camera is a slightly different prototype that HTC is still evaluating.
The HTC M8 Advance will sport similar specifications but will drop the metal body in favour of a plastic one, likely in a move to lower the price.
The report adds that both the HTC M8 Plus and HTC M8 Advance will launch ahead of the Apple iPhone 6, possibly as early as August. While the HTC M8 Advance appears headed to Asia with a lower price in tow, it’s not clear if the HTC M8 Plus will have a global launch like the HTC One (M8) or will be aimed at specific markets as a premium alternative.
