LG and Samsung are not the only smartphone manufacturers readying new flagship devices. Pretty much all companies are and that includes HTC. Its HTC One successor, known as the HTC M8, has already been the topic of more than a few rumours in recent weeks. Bloomberg is the latest to report that this successor to the nearly year old HTC One is coming soon.
Citing an unnamed source with “direct knowledge of the plans,” Bloomberg indicates that the new smartphone will sport a larger display and a better rear camera. The latter will be an improved version of HTC’s Ultrapixel camera with twin sensors to improve focus, depth of field and overall image quality. This report makes no mention of a fingerprint scanner, another expected feature.
It will also be powered by “Qualcomm Inc.’s later Snapdragon processor ” but it’s not clear if that will be a later generation Snapdragon 800 (such as the MSM8974-AC with quad 2.46GHz cores) or the new Snapdragon 805. Past rumours have suggested both processors so we’ll have to see how the dust settles.
The overall design itself is not expected to change much though. One modification could be that the case will be made of a single piece of aluminium rather than the HTC One’s two piece construction.
To capitalize on the brand awareness of its predecessor, the HTC M8 will likely launch under the HTC One name. Names mentioned in the past include the HTC One+ or the HTC One Two.
