It appears that HTC will borrow a page from Samsung’s playbook and release a premium version of its HTC One (M8) flagship smartphone. @evleaks recently revealed the codename as HTC One M8 Prime but revealed little else. Japanese site HTCSoku has given us some tantalizing details about this rumoured flagship for the second half of the year and it promises to be quite the device.
The report suggests that the HTC One Prime will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor paired to a Qualcomm MDM9x35 modem for LTE connectivity, a 5.5-inch WQHD (2560×1440) display, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and USB 3.0 support. It could also come with an upgraded HTC Duo Camera with a 5MP UltraPixel camera paired to an 18MP depth camera. That last number seems suspect so we’ll have to see if it’s a typo or if HTC really does have something quite new planned for its camera. Specifications could still change as these represent a development model.
A launch date appears set for September.
The report also adds that the HTC M8 Ace, once thought to be this new premium device, is likely instead the rumoured plastic bodied version of the HTC One (M8). This supports earlier rumours about this cheaper variant meant to take on the Samsung Galaxy S5 with similar specifications but a lower price.
