Android has been making its way onto larger smartphones and tablets as the demand for devices with larger displays continues to grow. While smartphones with displays larger than 5 inches and tablets with 12-inch displays are no longer rarities, larger devices still are but Hewlett-Packard could be looking to change that with the HP red. Caught on the GFXBench website, the mysterious Android-powered device sports a 16-inch touchscreen display.
Here is what the benchmarking website reveals about the HP red’s specifications:
- Processor: 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
- Operating system: Google Android 4.4.2 KitKat
- Cellular connectivity: None
- Other connectivity: GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC
- Display: 16-inch QXGA (2048×1536)
- RAM: 2GB
- Internal storage: 16GB
- Rear-facing camera: 7MP AF
- Front-facing camera: 2MP
- Sensors: Compass, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, pedometer, proximity sensor, barometer
It’s not immediately clear what form factor the HP red has. It could be an all-in-one, something HP tried last year with the HP Slate 21 All-In-One tablet. But specifications such as the pedometer and GPS suggest instead a more mobile device like a tablet or a convertible laptop.
As usual, a precautionary pinch of salt is required when looking at these details. The HP red may be a device that will never see the light of day or even a hoax.
