Google shows off Android Wear notifications

Android Wear notificationsGoogle unveiled Android Wear, an extension of its Android operating system designed specifically for wearable devices in mid-March. It gave us glimpses at how the new platform will work on devices such as the Moto 360 and LG G Watch but left much to be revealed later. A Google engineer has now given us a glimpse at how Android Wear notifications will look.

It’s striking how useful these notifications are and easy to imagine how much more valuable they could get with a little bit of additional development.  With just a few lines of code you can deliver even richer experiences on the wearable by using stacks, pages, and voice replies.

Timothy Jordan adds that developers may not even need to add any code to their apps to have notifications work on Android Wear devices. As long as the app is already notification-enabled, the new notifications will “generally just work on your new wearable.”

Telling which app triggered the Android Wear notification is easy. It will either include a small app icon in the top right corner or a background image.

With Google I/O 2014 just around the proverbial corner, Android Wear should be among the new technologies that we find out more about.
