Rumours have given us specifications and renders of the upcoming Google Nexus 6. It appears that we can now add benchmark results to the list of evidence that Google is readying a new Nexus smartphone to go along with the launch of Android L. It has popped up on the Geekbench website as the Motorola Shamu, its development codename.
A multi-core test gives the Google Nexus 6 a score of 3,199. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 scored a 2,998 and the Apple iPhone 6 a 2,997 on the same test. Last year’s Google Nexus 5 scored a 2,900.
It does not dominate the same way when it comes to the single core test as the iPhone 6 comes out on top with a score of 1,630. It is followed by last year’s Apple iPhone 5S with a 1,323 and the Nexus 6 in third place with a 1,040.
The results also show that the Motorola Shamu will come with a quad-core 2.65GHz Qualcomm processor (likely the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805), Android L and 3GB of RAM. Other expected specifications include a 5.9-inch 5.9-inch WQHD (2560×1440) display, a rear 13MP camera with OIS with a dual-flash ring configuration, a front 2MP camera and a 3,200mAH battery.
Google is expected to unveil the Nexus 6 alongside the Nexus 9 tablet which also popped up today with Android L later this month. An announcement could come on October 16, the same day that Apple is expected to announce new iPads.
