Google’s Sundar Pichai today took to Google+ to announce that the 7th annual Google I/O event will take place on June 25 and 26, 2014. As usual, it will take place in San Francisco at the Moscone Center.
The event has proven very popular in past years and has sold out in minutes on the day that tickets go on sale. To avoid the scramble and frustration of past years, Google will make some changes to the way registration works this year. This year, a lottery will determine who gets to attend. “We’ll be implementing a new system, where you can submit your interest to attend Google I/O 2014. Successful applicants will then be randomly selected and notified shortly thereafter.”
Google often uses the event to unveil new hardware as well as updated and new apps and software, including Android. Last year saw the announcement of the Google Pixel Chromebook and the Google Music service (which has yet to land in Canada) as well as redesigned versions of Google Maps and Google+. There are no hints yet as to what could be on tap for this year’s event.
For those who cannot attend or do not win tickets, Google will once again livestream both the keynotes and certain sessions.
