Google today announced the launch of the Google I/O 2014 website. More importantly, it also revealed that Google I/O 2014 registration will start on April 8, 2014 and will use a new system to avoid the crushing demand that has brought down the registration system in years past.
Registration will run between April 8 and April 10 and will not use a first-come-first-served model. Instead, Google will randomly select attendees from all the applications. Purchase confirmations will be sent out to those selected once the draw is complete.
We’re making some changes to this year’s registration process. The window to submit a registration application will remain open from 5:00am PDT on April 8th until 5:00pm PDT on April 10th, so you’ll have plenty of time to apply. We’ll randomly select applicants after the window closes on the 10th and notify those selected with their ticket purchase confirmations via email. Qualified registration applicants will be selected at random for ticket assignments. The order in which registration applications are received has no bearing on the final outcome.
General admission tickets will cost US$900 while those for academics will sell for US$300. Credit cards will only be charged when tickets are assigned. It will not be possible to transfer or resell tickets.
Google I/O 2014 will take place on June 25 and 26, 2014 in San Francisco at the Moscone Center. For those unable to attend, Google will offer livestreams of the keynote and sessions as well I/O Extended events in a number of areas.
