Google Glass is now available to anyone in the U.S. as part of its “Explorer” program which is now considered a “public beta.” While Google has yet to provide a specific launch date for Glass’ official public debut, the usually reliable @evleaks has given us a sign that it may well happen sooner than later. The tweet indicates that AT&T retail locations will be among the first to “offer Google Glass for sale to the public.”
The tweet also suggests that AT&T will not be alone in carrying Glass but will be among the first to do so. It’s likely that Google is in negotiations with other carriers and national retailers and that these could also soon offer the smartglasses to anyone who walks into their stores.

There is no word on specific availability and pricing. Google Glass currently sells for US$1500 but that price is expected to drop in time for its general release. As for the general launch date, Google is aiming for this year but has admitted that it may not hit that goal. Speaking at the Code Conference back in May, Google Co-Founder Sergey Brin said that, “I’d hope we could by the end of the year, but I’m not sure.”
With Google Glass almost two years old now, rumours have also started to suggest that Google is working on a second generation version.
