Google Chromecast now available in Canada

Google Chromecast

Good news for Canadians who have been eagerly awaiting the launch of Google Chromecast in Canada. It is finally availabe here through Google Play. Selling for CA$39, this small dongle plugs into an HDMI port on your TV or receiver and lets you stream a variety of media content from a number of devices, including your Android or iOS smartphone or tablet. It also works with Chrome for Mac and Windows and some Chromebooks (with support for more coming later).

Chromecast supports a variety of media apps including YouTube, Google Play Movies, Netflix, Songza and VEVO. With the launch of a Chromecast SDK back in February, we can expect more apps to be supported in the coming weeks and months.

Chromecast will keep getting better. We recently opened up Chromecast to developers, and in a few short weeks more than 3,000 developers worldwide have signed up to bring their apps and websites to Chromecast. You’ll soon have more TV shows, movies, videos, sports, music and games to choose from. Stay up-to-date on the latest apps that work with Chromecast at chromecast.com/apps.

Once an app has been cast to your TV, Chromecast uses its own connection and hardware to stream the content, freeing up your device to do something else. Essentially, you’ve cast to your app, you can go back to using your device for something else.

Google Chromecast is now available for CA$39 through Google Play and Amazon.ca.

Google also launched Chromecast in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the UK today.
