Google turned 16 this month. While the company was formally incorporated on September 4, 1998, it now officially celebrates its birthday on September 27. It should come as no surprise that it decided to throw itself a small party yesterday along with a birthday cake. And what do you put on top of such a cake? Normally you would put candles but Google has eschewed that tradition this year in favour of something a little more interesting, lollipops.
It’s Google’s birthday and and they can certainly put whatever they want on their cake. In fact, we know a few kids that might prefer candies atop their cake rather than inedible candles. Conspiracy theorists on the other hand will probably see a subtle but playful hint by Google that the next version of Android will not be known as Lemon Meringue Pie or Lion as some rumours have suggested but that it will be known as Android Lollipop when the Android L nickname is officially announced (in mid-October perhaps?).
So, happy birthday Google! And with that out of the way, what do you think? Let us know below if you believe that Android L will launch as Android Lollipop.
