Google has yet to officially announce Android 4.4.3 but there have been plenty of signs, including a number of builds and a report that it is being tested internally by Google, that it is coming soon. There is another sign now that it should be released fairly shortly. Google has started updating some of its apps to ensure that they are compatible with this latest version of KitKat.
Case in point is Google Edu Device Setup, an app used to set up tablets purchased through Google Apps for Education. Among the latest features to be added to the latest version (version 3.2.0 released on April 16) is “support for Android 4.4.3 and non-Nexus Tablets.” Note that not all Google apps have to necessarily be updated to be compatible though.
There is still no information on exactly when Google plans on releasing Android 4.4.3. It will likely hit Nexus devices first with GPe devices to follow shortly after.
Android 4.4.3 is expected to be a maintenance release that will add no new features but address a number of bugs, including a fix for a battery draining issue tied to the camera application.
Android 4.4.3 could also be the last build before Google unveils Android 4.5 either at Google I/O 2014 or at a separate event slightly later.
