Google this week announced that it has added two new voice commands to its Google Search App on Android. They will make it easier to take a photo or a video. These should help cut down on any potential fumbling when you want to capture that fleeting moment.
As with other voice commands, you simply tap the microphone icon on the search bar or say “Ok Google” on devices that support active listening followed by either “take a photo” or “take a video.” The commands launch the designated camera app in your preferred mode.
The commands are very useful but could have been made even more so by automatically taking the shot or starting to record. Google may have opted not to go that far to give time to people to frame their shot or video though.
Google also added a third command this week for music. If you have the Google Play Music app, you can also tell your Android device to “Play some music” and it will launch an “I’m feeling lucky” radio station with music pulled from what you recently listened to.
It’s clear that Google sees Voice Commands as something that can be used for more than just Google Glass. They are slowly but surely evolving into a credible way to manage an increasingly varied set of mobile device functions.
