HTC may have opted to go with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 to get its next flagship smartphone out as quickly as possible but a new report suggests that the first device to sport a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor may not be far behind. According to Japan’s RBMen, Qualcomm has revealed off the record that this first device will launch as early as May.
Little is known about this device at this point. We don’t know who is behind it nor if it will be a smartphone, tablet or something else.
The Snapdragon 805 “Ultra HD” (MSM8084) processor was first announced in November 2013. It improves on the Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AB) in a number of ways. It features faster 2.5GHz Krait 450 cores based on the ARMv7-a architecture as well as a new Adreno 420 GPU promising graphics processing performance up to 40 percent better than its predecessor. Memory bandwith support can run as high as 25.6GB per second and both Wi-Fi range and performance have been improved as well.
