We have barely scratched the potential and promise of wearable technology to date. Smartwatches, especially the new Moto 360, are an exciting start but we all know that there is much more to come. There is no reason that wearables must be limited to our wrists. Another obvious place for wearables is our fingers. Much as many of us already wear a watch on our wrists, I suspect that more of us have something around our fingers already. That’s where the Nokia FIT concept comes in. It essentially puts your phone on your finger.
Conceived by Issam Trabelsi, the Nokia FIT supports basic phone functions such as talking and texting. Made of soft silicone and flexible rubber, it fits around your index finger. The controls are located within easy reach at the top and bottom. Notifications about incoming calls or texts would be in the form of vibrations.
If there is one limitation to the Nokia FIT, it is the lack of a display. Without it, it’s not clear how Caller ID would work or how texting would work. Presumably those limitations would be overcome with an oral component.
Fitting all the necessary components into such a compact design may not be something we can quite do today but we could well see such devices a few years from now when flexible components become the norm.
