Concept Sunday: Motorola Moto X2

Motorola Moto X2 concept

Most rumours about upcoming Motorola products have focused so far on the Xplay phablet and a new DROID smartphone for Verizon Wireless. Motorola has said that it will launch a follow-up to the Moto X sometime in “late summer” but that’s essentially all we have to go on at this point. Bored after finishing up with his school work, Ramon Rivas got to work and came up with a concept of what the Moto X2 could look like.

The concept shares much with the Moto X. The front is again dominated by the display but with much thinner bezels. It sports orange buttons that speak to the likelihood that the Moto X2 will be customizable through MotoMaker much like the current Moto X is.

On the back, the dimpled Motorola logo can be found below the camera which sports a dual-LED flash. The camera ring is orange as well, again hinting at customization. There is also a dual-speaker setup with one at the top and one at the bottom. Rivas is unhappy with the speaker and flash placement so we could see an updated concept from him, perhaps the next time boredom hits.

No specifications are provided but it’s likely that it will come with a Full HD if not better display. Much as we saw with the Moto X, Motorola is unlikely to aim for the highest possible specifications though. It will also focus on again delivering a device that strikes a balance between specifications and price.

We’ll see late this summer how close Rivas got to the Moto X2 design with this concept.
