Concept Sunday: Domino Nexus Marble

Domino Nexus Marble conceptMany concepts we have featured on Concept Sunday are interesting designs in which specifications take a back seat to a unique form factor. In the case of the Domino Nexus Marble, it’s the opposite with the specifications taking center stage. Conceived by DeviantART‘s TimmyRay1992, the monoblock design certainly is not unusual in itself.

That’s not to say that there are not some rather unique features. First is the edge-to-edge display with nary a side bezel to be seen. There is also the LCD message bar on the back that lets you see notifications at a glance. The power button, volume rocker and Home button are also narrow LCD displays that can be customized with unique graphics and functions depending on the app being used. But billed as a “feature-intensive and ‘true’ pocket computer,” the Domino Nexus Marble is really all about the specifications:

  • Processor: 2.8GHz quad-core AMD A10
  • Operating system: Gogle Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • Display: 6.5-inch 4K Ultra HD Super AMOLED with secondary 8-bit rear LCD message bar
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Internal storage: 250GB
  • External storage: MicroSD and SD card slots
  • Rear-facing camera: 80MP with 4K Ultra HD video capture, laser focus, and 5 LED and 2 Zenon flashes and 14MP post focus camera
  • Front-facing camera: 12MP
  • Connectors: USB port
  • Sensors: Fingerprint scanner in Home button
  • Other: Triple Dolby Virtual Surround Sounds rear speakers

The rear camera also allows you to attach optional magnetic SLR lens adapters.

It all makes for a rather impressive future Nexus device. While it falls squarely in the realm of fancyful fantasy today, the rate at which smartphones have evolved in recent years suggests it could well be a taste of things to come within a few more generations of Nexus devices. By then, Android Lollipop will have become another past chapter in the history of Android and the Domino Nexus Marble will instead run Android P or Android Q perhaps.
