The last time we featured a BlackBerry concept device was back in August with the BlackBerry Z15 slider. With BlackBerry refocusing on the enterprise space and slimming down its device portfolio, it may be a while before we see such a device from BlackBerry. Instead, BlackBerry will focus on all-touch devices as well as candybars sporting its iconic QWERTY keyboard. The BlackBerry Q10 (read our review) was the first such BlackBerry 10 device. What if its successor comes with a larger display than the Q10’s 3.1-inch AMOLED one? That’s the idea behind the BlackBerry Q40 concept: A candybar offering a 5-inch display and a QWERTY keyboard.
The BlackBerry Q40 would certainly not be a small device but in an age where smartphones sport displays as large as 6-inches sometimes, it may not be as out of sorts as one would first expect. Many would likely welcome the larger display in itself but there could be another benefit to the device being larger as well. It could translate into a more comfortable typing experience thanks to a larger keyboard with bigger keys.
The next QWERTY device to come from BlackBerry could be the device currently known as Windermere. Practically nothing is known about it and it remains to be seen if it will have a larger display than the Q10. But a concept for the BlackBerry Q30 seems both more realistic and far more attractive:
Which concept do you prefer: The slimmer BlackBerry Q30 with smaller display or the BlackBerry Q40 with its larger display? Let us know below.
