As recently as this week BlackBerry reconfirmed plans to eventually return to the tablet arena. As the recent BlackBerry Passport has shown, BlackBerry is willing to try different things in a bid to differentiate itself from competitors. What if BlackBerry decided to build a phablet instead of a full-size tablet? That’s the idea behind the BlackBerry Z70, a phablet conceived by DeviantArt‘s Suwhenzetie.
The all-touch BlackBerry Z70 comes with a 6.57-inch WQHD (2560×1440) edge-to-edge display with a pixel density of 438PPI, rear-facing stereo speakers, a touch-sensitive volume rocker that can also act as your camera and music controls. Below the screen is an e-ink toolbelt that sports virtual versions of the Call, Menu, TrackPad, Back, and End Call buttons. This toolbelt can be turned off if the user does not want to use it.
The BlackBerry Z70 is roughly the same size as the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet’s display area. The back appears to be finished in leather or plastic with a leather-like finish. It appears to be much thinner than the PlayBook was.
While phablets may not be for everyone, sales of devices such as the Apple iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 clearly show that there is a market for them as well.
With its newly found propensity to design unconventional devices, should BlackBerry get into the phablet market? Let us know below.
