While it may be too early to call BlackBerry’s turnaround a success, a number of signs suggest that the company is successfully reinventing itself. While the company did announce another loss in its latest quarter, it was much smaller than many analysts predicted. The company also announced that day that its new BlackBerry Passport, a device that will not be confused with many others on the market, has already sold in excess of 200,000 units. Company executives promise that more such distinctive devices are coming.
Speaking to Reuters today, President, Devices and Emerging Solutions, Ron Louks revealed that the company is looking at introducing “at least one unconventional device each year.” Next year’s device is already in the works and has apparently already received “some positive feedback from carriers on it.”
Could it be that smartphone with a flipout keyboard (seen above) we recently saw a patent for? Whether it is or not, it is likely we will see it at Mobile World Congress in February 2015.
It appears that the conservative BlackBerry of yore has indeed morphed into something quite different. The company looks ready to take a few gambles in a bid to return to its former glory. “When it comes to design and being a little bit disruptive, we want that ‘wow’ factor,” Louks said. “Not all of the products will have it, but we definitely have opportunities.”
We say, “Bring it on, BlackBerry!”
