BlackBerry may still be struggling for its survival, especially in the smartphone market arena where its market share now stands at a mere 0.5% but good news has outweighed bad news in recent times. The company got more good news this week when Digit, India’s largest selling technology magazine, named the BlackBerry 10.2 operating system ‘The World’s Best Mobile OS.’

Digit tested BlackBerry OS 10.2 against Android 4.4, iOS 7.1.2 and Windows Phone 8.1 in a month-long comparison test. It tested a range of functionalities including browsing, e-mail, messaging, settings and customization, managing contacts and calling, photography, notifications, lock screen capability, search and video capture.

“This was by far the most comprehensive test we have ever done, as the Digit Test Centre spent over 400 man-hours, meticulously checking over a thousand individual parameters for each OS, in order to arrive at a true and unbiased answer to the question, ‘What’s the World’s best mobile OS out of the box?’ By winning five of the ten aspects we tested for, BlackBerry OS 10.2 is a deserved winner of the title,” said Robert Sovereign-Smith, Executive Editor, Digit.

Apple’s iOS 7.1.2 came in second with Google’s Android taking third place.

The BlackBerry OS is not without areas where it could be improved. Echoing what many others say, Digit described the browser as “lacklustre” but still concludes that it “deserves much more attention than it actually receives.”
