BlackBerry first announced that it would offer a version of its BBM app for devices still running Android Gingerbread back in January. The company announced yesterday that this “special release” is now available for download through Google Play.
This means that Android Gingerbread users can start to enjoy the immediacy, privacy and control of BBM to chat and share with friends, family and people they work with. And for our existing BBM users, this release means that you can find even more of the people you want to talk to on BBM.
BBM for Android Gingerbread comes with the Find Friends feature that was introduced recently with BBM 2.0 for Android and iOS. One key feature missing from this version is BBM Channels.
With more than a fifth of Android devices still running on Gingerbread (versions 2.3.3 up to 2.3.7) , BlackBerry can expect to pick up a few more BBM users with this release.
BBM for Gingerbread is available as a free download either through Google Play or by visiting www.BBM.com on your Android Gingerbread smartphone.
