As expected, new iPads today took center stage at Apple’s latest press event. After revealing that Apple has now sold more than 225 million iPad tablets, CEO Tim Cook unveiled the latest models, the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3. As rumours had already hinted, the new iPads are modest upgrades over previous models.
“iPad is a magical piece of glass that runs more than 675,000 apps specifically designed for it, and is thin and light enough that you can comfortably hold it all day; the new iPad Air 2 is packed with amazing new innovations, weighs less than a pound, and at just 6.1 mm is the thinnest tablet in the world,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPad Air 2 has a new Retina display with anti-reflective coating, second generation 64-bit A8X chip, all-new iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, faster Wi-Fi and LTE wireless, and includes the revolutionary Touch ID fingerprint identity sensor.”

The iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi model will sell for CA$549/US$499 with 16GB of storage, CA$659/US$599 for the 32GB one and CA$769/US$699 for the 64GB one. Wi-Fi + Cellular models will sell for CA$689/US$629, CA$799/US$729 and CA$899/US$829 respectively.
The Apple iPad mini 3 will start at CA$439/US$399 for the 16GB model. The 32GB and 64GB models will cost CA$549/US$499 and CA$659/US$599 respectively. The cellular version will cost CA$579/US$529, CA$689/US$629 and CA$799/US$729 respectively.
Both will be available in Canada and the U.S. for pre-order starting tomorrow and will go on sale next week.
