Last we heard, the rumour mill suggested that Apple would launch a larger 5.7-inch iPhone model as early as May with a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 to follow later in the year. According to China’s Tencent Digital News, analyst Sun Chyang Xu suggests that it will in fact be the opposite: Both smartphones will reportedly be unveiled at WWDC 2014. The 4.7-inch model will then go on sale shortly after with the 5.7-inch model following later in the year, likely in time for the crucial holiday shopping season.
The report adds that, despite a larger display, the 4.7-inch iPhone will offer the same 1136×640 pixel screen resolution as the current 4-inch iPhone. It will retain the 8MP camera found on the iPhone 5S but will benefit from a lower f/1.8 aperture (f/2.2 on the iPhone 5S) and optical image stabilization. It will also be quite thin, possibly only 6 millimeters, but could weigh slightly more.
Less is known about the 5.7-inch model but Xu expects that it will come with a higher resolution display. No mention is made about this larger model being part of a new phablet family of devices.
In order for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 to be available sometime in the summer, production is already at the trial stage with volumes to ramp up to 2 to 3 million units a month by the time May hits.
