Apple had not yet unveiled the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that a new version of iOS 8 started to surfaced in the web logs . Version 8.0.1 was reportedly provided to a number of testing partners but was also spotted originating from Apple’s own networks. MacRumors has learned that the update fixes a number of bugs found in the iOS 8 golden master version released last week. Among these are:
- Phone: Addresses bugs with call forwarding and freezing when accessing visual voicemail
- Keyboard: Fixes an issue with keypad not appearing to enter iCloud Keychain verification codes
- Safari: Fixes a problem with videos occasionally not playing
- Sharing: Fixes AirDrop support for Passbook passes
- VPN: Addresses an issue with installing VPN profiles
It’s unlikely that this is a complete change log. Other issues are likely to be fixed as reports come in the quickly growing iOS 8 user base (standing at 46% of iOS users as of a couple days ago). As MacRumors suggests, it’s also unlikely to be the only bug fix release we see in the coming weeks and months.
It’s not clear when Apple will release iOS 8.0.1 at this point but the fact that it’s already undergoing testing by partners suggests users may not have to wait long.
