Apple iWatch launch to slip into 2015?

Apple iWatch concept

The much rumoured Apple iWatch is one of the most anticipated devices of the year. Apple could unveil its first wearable as early as September 9 with its new iPhones or, as is more likely, at a separate event in October entirely focused on the smartwatch. But rumours are growing that those looking to get their hands on the iWatch will have to be patient a while longer. A report recently suggested that production would not start until November with availability unlikely until December. Now comes word that the iWatch could launch even later. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now believes that its launch could be pushed out to 2015:
We reiterate our view that iWatch, as compared to existing products, and as Apple’s (US) first attempt at a wearable device, represents a much higher level of difficulty for the company as regards component and system design, manufacturing and integration between hardware and software. While we are positive on iWatch and believe that the advantages of the design and business model behind it are difficult to copy, we think, given the aforementioned challenges, that the launch could be postponed to 2015.
Assuming that the report is correct, it’s not clear whether Apple will go ahead with the expected launch event this year. It’s unlikely that people will forget the iWatch even with several months between announcement and launch but delaying the announcement would narrow the time between announcement and launch and likely ensure maximum consumer attention. In the meantime, Apple is still expected to announce two new iPhones, a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch one as well as new iPads.
Apple is rumoured to be readying two iWatch models, a Sports model with a rectangular design and rubber wristband and a Designer model with a round watchface and stainless steel construction. If true, it could be that only one of these two models has been delayed.
