A new report suggests that Apple will move up the launch of the iPhone 6 as well as a larger 5.5-inch version. While Apple itself remains tight-lipped as usual about any future devices, recent rumours have predicted that Apple would launch the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in the September time frame, roughly a year after the launch of the iPhone 5S. A larger 5.5-inch device, which could be launched as a separate product category, was believed to follow in Q4. A report by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News (via Reuters) now suggests earlier launches for both devices.
Citing “unidentified supply-chain sources,” the report indicates that Apple will both unveil and launch the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in August. The larger model will then follow as early as September. It’s likely that Apple will use a single launch event in August for both devices.
Rumours that Apple would launch two larger smartphones this year have been around for quite some time now. While there are few details about them, rumours have fairly consistently pointed to both 4.7- and a 5.5-inch models. With competitors unveiling their flagship smartphones at a faster pace, Apple may have been forced to react to upcoming devices such as the LG G3, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime and Galaxy Note 4.
