Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders kicked off earlier today. Despite some hiccups both on the Apple Store and on some of the websites of its retail partners, Apple recorded a record number of pre-orders today. In a statement today, Apple said, “Response to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has been incredible, with a record number of preorders overnight.” Apple did not disclose any numbers though.
Apple did not provide an explanation as to why its site went down as pre-orders began early today. It may well have been inundated by demand. Other retail partners also suffered problems. For example, the Rogers Reservation system was down for some time this morning as well. South of the border, it was a similar story. Both Sprint and T-Mobile ran into website issues as pre-orders kicked off
In Canada, a number of iPhone 6 models still show that shipments will happen in “7-10 business days” but most how show availability in “3-4 weeks.” All iPhone 6 Plus models show availability in “3-4 weeks.” Availability of the larger 5.5-inch model may still be hampered by production issues that are limiting not only initial availability but also Apple’s ability to fulfill the queue of pre-orders.
The Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are set to go on sale on September 19, a week today. Judging by today’s demand, it will likely be difficult to get your hands on many models on the day of the launch. It is likely that the traditional Apple lineups will once again materialize around the world.
