Apple today released a second beta for iOS 8. It comes two week after the release of the first beta. iOS 8 beta 2 focuses on “bug fixes and improvements.”
Among some of the changes from the first beta is the addition of a native Podcasts app (and cannot be uninstalled), the addition of the new QuickType keyboard for iPads and a change to Safari preventing ads from redirecting users to the App Store without any interaction. Bug fixes include one that should prevent crashes when adding third-party keyboards.
The iOS 8 beta 2 software and SDK are now available for download to iOS Developer Program members. It is compatible with the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina display.
Apple unveiled iOS 8 at WWDC 2014 back on June 2. It is expected to hit the final version stage sometime in the fall. Apple is likely to release a few more beta versions before then in a bid to iron out all the issues before it hits the general release stage. It will be a free upgrade for compatible devices.
