Apple yesterday brought its its iPhone reuse and recycling program to Canada. First launched in the U.S. last August, it lets users trade in their old iPhones in exchange for a credit to be applied towards a new model. Billed as “an affordable way to upgrade to a new iPhone,” the value of the credit varies but can be worth up to CA$275 for more recent models.
According to an Apple spokesperson:
“iPhones hold great value. So, Apple Retail Stores in Canada are launching a new program to assist customers who wish to bring in their previous-generation iPhone for reuse or recycling. In addition to helping support the environment, customers will be able to receive a credit for their returned phone that they can use toward the purchase of a new iPhone.”
The iPhone Reuse and Recycling program is open to both consumers and business customers. It even extends to non-functioning iPhones but don’t expect to get anywhere close to CA$275 for such a device.
To take advantage of the new program, customers simply have to visit their nearest Apple store. Their device will be assessed on site and can be traded in on the same visit.
The new program should help a few less smartphones make their way to landfill or gather dust in drawers when they get replaced with newer models.
