The Apple iPhone 6 has been the topic of rumours almost from the time that Apple announced its predecessor and current model, the iPhone 5S. Recent rumours have been pointing to a September release date and MacRumors is the latest to throw its weight behind this time frame. According to an unnamed “reliable” source, Apple will likely announce it sometime in the first two weeks of September.
Such a timeline would follow that of recent iPhone announcements. The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C were announced on Spetember 10, 2013 and the iPhone 5 was unveiled on September 12, 2012. Both saw shipmetns begin just over a week later. With iPhone 6 mass shipments from Apple’s suppliers set to start in the second half of August, it appears that Apple will follow a similar timeline this year as well.
It’s not clear whether Apple will unveil both the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model and the larger 5.5-inch one or only the former. While there were rumours that they would be announced separately, more recent ones have suggested instead that Apple will use a single event to unveil both. Even with a single event, they could still have different shipping dates if need be.
The Apple iPhone 6 is expected to launch with iOS 8 as well as a thinner design, a faster Apple A8 processor and other hardware improvements. The larger 5.5-inch model could sport additional enhancements such as optical image stabilization and more onboard storage.
