Android last week unveiled Android Wear, an extension of its Android operating system aimed at wearable devices and smartwatches in particular with the first release. It was quickly followed by announcements by LG and Motorola that they would offer smartwatches powered by Android Wear later this year. While the Motorola Moto 360 garnered a lot of attention because of its unique round design, LG gave us only a single partial image of the upcoming LG G Watch to work with. It has now followed that up with a clearer image published by LG UK via Twitter.
The image confirms what we had seen before. The LG G Watch shares more in terms of esthetics with other smartwatches on the market than it does with traditional watches. It has a rectangular design with rounded corners and what appears to be a rubber wristband. It’s not clear exactly how big the display is but it does appear to be quite large. No buttons are visible. It also clearly uses Android Wear, something LG had confirmed already.
Unfortunately, there is little else to go on at this point. LG has yet to share specifications and the new image also leaves much unanswered. For example, will the LG G Watch charge via a port of some kind (likely microUSB) or will it do so wirelessly as we expect the Moto G to do?
The LG G Watch will launch sometime in Q2. Pricing, specifications and specific availability details have yet to be announced.
Now that you’ve had a better look at the LG G Watch, what do you think of it? Let us know below.
