New details are emerging about the “epic Angry Birds” game that Rovio teased earlier this week. Called “Angry Birds Epic” (see what Rovio did with their teaser?), it will once again take the franchise into a new direction. Following the kart racing action of Angry Birds Go!, Angry Birds Epic will be a role-playing game with turn-based combat.
Details are still slim but the game will also include a crafting system whereby players will be able to build armour weapons as well as brew potions using resources acquired in the game or through in-app purchases. The game will also feature a “story-driven campaign with a challenging endgame.” It’s likely that the different birds will represent different classes with the red bird being a knight.
As reported earlier, Angry Birds Epic will first soft-launch in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It should hit the Canadian and Australian iTunes stores later this week. The game is still in development and the version launching is described as being in “an incredibly early form” (is that another term for beta?). It will only be available for iOS initially. Android and Windows Phone 8 versions will launch when the game is done sometime later this year.
