There is evidence once more today that Motorola will upgrade both the Moto X and Moto G to Android L when it is officially released sometime later this fall. Following an announcement by Motorola Germany on Facebook that unfortunately turned out to be a hoax, the company’s customer support has effectively confirmed the same information. In an online chat, Motorola representative Kristina indicated that both the Moto X and Moto G will receive Android L updates “once it is available.”
The upgrade fate of the Moto E remains uncertain at this point. Its entry-level specifications may be enough of a limitation that it cannot run Android L well. Both Motorola Germany and Motorola customer support indicated that the company was still looking to see if the upgrade was possible. Should it not be upgradeable, it might instead be bumped up to Android One, Google’s new initiative aimed at inexpensive Android devices like the Moto E.
Motorola has impressed many with the speed at which it has pushed out recent updates for its latest devices. While it’s very likely that both the Moto X and Moto G will be upgrade to Android L, the company has yet to officially confirm it. Until then, keep a pinch of salt handy just in case.
