Google unveiled its latest version of Android back at Google I/O 2014 in late June. Unlike past years, it did not reveal details like the version name or its dessert name, calling it only Android L. It now appears that we will not have to wait much longer to know what the L stands for. Two pictures snapped by a visitor to Google’s Mountain View office suggest that the company might be getting ready to receive a new Android statue. If so, it would be none other than the Android L statue.
The first image indicates that a “crane lift project” is taking place Saturday September 6 between 0600 and 1400 PT. A second shows a worker possibly getting the statue garden area ready for its latest addition.
Recent rumours have suggested that Android L will be known as Lemon Meringue Pie. Other possibilities floated about include Lollipop and Licorice.
If a new statue does end up being delivered tomorrow, it’s likely that Google will hold some kind of announcement next week to formally name Android L. It will hopefully also tell us when we can expect it to be released, likely with new Nexus devices in tow. If recent rumours are to be believed, we could see the HTC-built Google Nexus 9 tablet, the Google Nexus X phablet with a 5.9-inch display and possibly even a smaller Nexus smartphone (either a new 5.2-inch model or a new 64GB Nexus 5 model.
