Android KitKat tops 13% in latest Android platform version data

Android version distribution - June 2014It has taken more than six months but Android KitKat has finally broken through the 10% threshold in the latest update to the Google Android Platform Versions report. Numbers published today by Google now show Android KitKat at 13.6% up 5.1% over the previous month. The jump is likely due to the growing number of devices launching with the latest version of Android and to a lesser extent updates to existing devices.

Jelly Bean continues to slowly drop, finally dropping below 60% and now stands at 58.4%. The older Ice Cream Sandwich (versions 4.0.3 and 4.0.4) and Gingerbread (versions 2.3.3 to 2.3.7) now stand at 12.3% and 14.9% respectively. While Froyo (version 2.2) also managed to hang on, the tablet-friendly Honeycomb has dropped off the chart.

Apple’s numbers continue to show a very stark for iOS. It shows that 89% of all iOS devices are running iOS 7 with iOS 6 accounting for another 9%. Older versions account for a mere 2%.
