Good news tonight for Canadian owners of the Google Nexus 5 and Nexus 4. According to reports coming our way as well as a welcome notification on our own Nexus 5, both devices have begun to receive their Android 5.0 Lollipop updates. It hopefully does not come as a big surprise given that Google confirmed last week that the rollout had begun.
The update, sporting build number LRX210, weighs in at nearly 500MB for the Nexus 5 and. The Nexus 4 build is LRX21T.
Among the key features of Android 5.0 Lollipop are:
- Material Design: A consistent design for a range of devices
- More control over device settings
- Improved battery life (Project Volta)
- Improved security with support for multiple accounts, a guest mode and the ability to use a paired device like a smartwatch to unlock the main device
The Android 5.0 changelog provides more details as to what the latest version of Android brings with it.
The OTA update for the Nexus 7 (both 2012 and 2013 models) and Nexus 10 should not be far behind if they have not already landed on your device. Unfortunately, Nexus devices older than the Google Nexus 4 will not be updated.
If waiting for an OTA update is not your strong point, you can also download the appropriate Lollipop factory image directly from Google.
Thanks all!
