After missing in action in October, Google today updated its Android Platform Versions report. Published on the same day that Android 5.0 Lollipop is out with the HTC-built Google Nexus 9, it shows that Android 4.4 KitKat is now on nearly a third of all Android devices. Since Google last published numbers in early September, KitKat has increased its share of the Android pie by another 5%.

The two-year old Android Gingerbread still accounts for over half of all Android devices while even older versions while older versions still account for nearly 20% of the pie. Froyo, released in 2010, continues to cling to the chart with a 0.6% share, down only 0.1% from the last report.

Given that the Google Nexus 9, the first device to run Android 5.0, only came out yesterday, we can expect to see Lollipop appear on the chart no sooner than next month.

On the iOS side, iOS 8 has already made its way on over half of all iOS devices despite being less than two months old. The last time we looked at iOS numbers, it was not even out yet. As a result, iOS 7 has seen its share drop from 92% to 43%.
