Amazon today announced that it will hold a “launch event” on June 18. The background image of the invitation gives us a pretty big clue as to what Amazon has in store for the event. While new Kindle tablets may be on tap, the highlight of the event is likely to be the long-rumoured Amazon smartphone. The image certainly appears to be too small to be a tablet unless that Amazon logo is gigantic.
It also features a teaser video of people saying things like “It moved with me!” and “It’s very real life and incomparable to anything I’ve seen!”while moving their heads and looking at a device that we cannot see.

The invitation reveals no details about the Amazon smartphone but past rumours have indicated that it will come a 4.7-inch HD (720×1280) display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and six individual camera modules. Four of these will be used to track the user’s head movements to create a custom glasses-free 3D experience, explaining the “It moved with me!” comment in the video. Amazon will likely once again used a forked version of Android that will forego Google’s usual services in favour of its own mobile app store and other services.
Other rumours have suggested that Amazon could also launch an Amazon Prime data plan with the device.
