Underlying the growing interest in wearable technology, Amazon today announced the launch of a new store dedicated to wearables. The Wearable Technology store includes the “latest in wearable technology and research wearable devices including activity trackers, smart watches, wearable cameras and more.” Among the brands carried are established brands such as Pebble (whose Pebble Steel we just finished reviewing), Samsung, Jawbone and GoPro as well as newer brands such as Basis and Misfit. It also promises to soon carry devices from brands such as Narrative and Bionym. It’s likely that it will also carry Android Wear devices and the Apple iWatch when they launch.

“Wearable technology is an exciting category with rapid innovation and our customers are increasingly coming to Amazon to shop and learn about these devices,” said John Nemeth, Director of Wireless and Mobile Electronics at Amazon. “We’re thrilled to bring our customers a store with the largest selection and great prices that helps eliminate the guesswork when deciding which wearable devices best fit their needs—whether that is tracking activity, staying connected through smart watches or capturing their next adventure with wearable cameras.”

Recognizing that many consumers are still learning about the potential of wearable technology, the new Amazon Wearable Technology store comes with a “Learning Center” that includes product video, buying guides and information about device compatibility.

The Amazon Wearable Technology store is currently avalailable on Amazon.com. It has yet to launch on Amazon.ca but wearables are offered through its recently launched Electronics store.
