Acer announces Acer Liquid Leap smartwatch

Acer Liquid LeapAcer announced a range of new products today at its “A Touch More Connected” launch event earlier today. Along with new notebooks and tablets, Acer briefly briefly showed off its first wearable device, the Acer Liquid Leap smartwatch, but revealed little about it except to say it was coming later this year.

The narrow device, measuring only 17 millimeters across with a narrow OLED display, appears to be a cross between a smartwatch and a fitness band. As such it keeps track of time and workout information and also offers a variety of notifications such as incoming messages. It does appear to share more with fitness bands though but also looks to differentiate itself by trying to offer a bit more.

Acer provided additional little information about it but based on the fact that it was shown off in black and red, we can expect it to be offered in a range of colours. One detail that was confirmed is that it will not have either GPS or a heart rate sensor.

Launch details are slim but it could hit certain markets as early as late July or early August. It will likely initally be bundled with Acer’s upcoming Liquid Jade smartphone about which few details were also released. Acer is considering offering it as a standalone product later as well.
