The HTC J Butterfly was the first smartphone to come with a Full HD (1920×1080) display. It never made it out of Asia but an international variant, the HTC Butterfly, soon followed and even made its way to the U.S. as the Verizon DROID DNA. The Butterfly S followed earlier this summer with upgraded specifications but has yet to make it to North America. Now a new Butterfly smartphone appears to be waiting in the wings for launch early next year.
Taiwan’s ePrice reports that the HTC Butterfly 2 will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that may have been originally planned for the HTC One max as well as a 5.2-inch Full HD display. And it could be waterproof with an IPX7 rating as well, a growing trend among smartphone manufacturers.
There is no word on other specifications such as camera and battery size.
Launch plans are slim to with the only detail we have for now being that a launch could come as early as January 2014. It remains to be seen if the HTC Butterfly 2 will follow in its original sibling’s footsteps by launching first in Japan and gradually expanding to other markets in weeks and months to follow.
