It appears that Samsung and Intel are making good progress with Tizen. Back in July, the source code and SDK for Tizen 2.2 were released and it now looks like version 3.0 is on track for an early 2014 release (March 2014 to be precise). Not only did a preview version of the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) version recently get released but new pictures have surfaced showing it running on both a Galaxy S III and a newer Galaxy S4. A roadmap also shows that Tizen 3.0 will launch in Q1 2014.
The images show a cleaner and flatter interface than before. They show the homescreen with alerts as well as the phone dialer and music player among others. The user interface retains a colourful look, somewhat similar in style to Windows Phone.
Samsung is holding its first Developers Conference in October and Tizen will be in attendance. Past rumours suggested that the first Tizen-powered smartphones would be unveiled but availability has slipped into 2014 according to more recent reports. If so, Samsung may show off prototypes at the conference and save the actual launch for a future event.
