There is good news today for Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra owners. Sony Mobile announced that it is now rolling out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to both devices. The update includes not only the latest version of Android Jelly Bean but a few other Sony enhancements.
“We’ve been working to blend our Sony Xperia software with Google’s Jelly Bean release to create some cool user experiences (if we say so ourselves)”.
These additions to the update include:
- Sony Smart Social Camera introduced with the Xperia Z1 now available on the Xperia Z Ultra
- Entire Sony native app portfolio has been updated bringing “tweaked / improved / current experiences” to apps such as Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect and others
- Updated Media apps including WALKMAN, Album and Movies to offer “a more converged and full Sony entertainment experience” across services such as Sony Entertainment Network and both local and cloud content
- New custom interface experience called Xperia Themes with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select
- Updated Xperia in Business mobile enterprise solution
Sony Mobile does add the usual caveat that timing and availability of the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra Android 4.3 upgrade rollout will vary by market and carrier. With the Xperia Z1 available through Bell, Rogers and TELUS and the Xperia Z Ultra through Bell, we’ll let you know as soon as we hear that the updates are hitting Canadian devices.
Sony already confirmed that both devices will also be upgraded to Android 4.4. It’s clear that this will only happen at some point next year.
