Sony today unveiled the oft-rumoured Xperia Z1 Mini as the Xperia Z1 f SO-02F for NTT DoCoMo. As expected, it is a smaller variant of the Xperia Z1. Unlike other manufacturers that bump down specifications on their mini models (Samsung and HTC are two examples that quickly come to mind), Sony did not compromise on most of the specifications to come up with a smaller Xperia Z1.

The main differences between the Xperia Z1 and the smaller Xperia Z1f are the smaller display (with reduced resolution) and smaller battery. Other key specifications are unchanged between the two devices.
Sony customers in Japan now effectively have the choice of two variants of Sony’s flagship device. Those who prefer a smaller devices can choose the Xperia Z1 f with the knowledge that it is a equally powerful device.
The Sony Xperia Z1 f SO-02F will be offered by NTT DoCoMo in Japan in December. There is no word yet on whether Sony plans to expand availability beyond Japan.
