A new Samsung device has been spotted on the GFXBench website. The details for the SM-G900S suggest we could be looking at Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5.
A caveat first: Nowhere on the benchmark results does the name Galaxy S5 show up. In fact, the model number itself suggests it could be a variant or successor to the Galaxy Round which bears model number SM-G910. But the specifications revealed suggest otherwise and point instead to a device worthy of flagship status.
So what do we know about the SM-G900S so far? It is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8974 processor and Android 4.4 KitKat. Based on the maximum clock speed, we are possibly looking at a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 800 (with Adreno 330 in tow), likely the 8974AB or 8974AC variant as current versions are clocked up to 2.3GHz. On a sidenote, Samsung could also use its own 64-bit Exynos processor in a second, likely international, variant but there is no suggestion of this here.
As for the display, the size is unknown but the resolution is listed as WQHD (2560×1440). It is likely though to fall in the 5-inch range.
There are no other key details to be gleaned from the benchmark. Past rumours have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will sport a metal unibody design with a 16MP camera with an ISOCELL sensor but without OIS and between 3 and 4GB of RAM.
Is the Samsung SM-G900S worthy of being its next flagship smartphone? Or do you expect more from such a device? Let us know below.
